Time Well Wasted in Spring Light
Time Well Wasted in Spring Light

As Liang Wendao wrote in "For Myself,"

Reading some "useless" books,

Doing some "useless" things,

Spending some "useless" time—

All are meant to preserve, beyond everything known,

An opportunity to transcend oneself.

Some of life's most remarkable changes

Come from moments such as these.

And I,

Am willing, in such "useless" spring light,

To listen for a moment to the voice within,

Searching for the strength to set out anew.

How many beautiful yet useless things exist in this world

Like pear blossoms in full bloom stuffed into an ice-cream cone

Like that cup of fresh tea adorned with jasmine

Like writing a fairy tale on a blank sheet of paper

Spring, it often hides inside time's Chrome Hearts

Painting a picture with invisible brushstrokes

A crayon drawing of white clouds as a couch, wind blowing through the cloud tops

Orchids growing from the cracks in stone

A tree of white crabapple blooming before the porch

In the spring-limited sunlight

Is the gentle fragrance of grass and wood

Is the clarity filling a whole room

Is a secret beautiful as a mountain lily, gently blooming

Whether gorgeously innocent

Or vividly alive

These drops of spring light are all rare and precious

Those fragrant secrets

Illuminated by sunlight, radiating brilliance
